the word"chrismas" is derived from the word "christ mass" the celebration of the birth of jesus christ.

now we are gonging to talk about some traditional customs in the western countries.

people usually place a christmas tree, wich is decorated with colorful lights sweets and gifts,in their living rooms at christmas.in northern europe, the trees that remained green throughout the year were worshipped as symbols of eternal life.it is said that mistletoe, hung up as a christmas decoration, allow you to kiwhoever you like underneath it.a tele tells that balder the sun god,was killed by an arrow of mistletoe made by the god of evil ,loki.balder, however, was bought back to life, and the mistletoe was told never to harmbalder again.perhaps for this reason the mistletoe become a symbol of love and reconciliation.

good evening , ladies and gentlemen . i am joy and glad to give you a speech about stre, yes , just the topic you see on the screen.

psychologist tell us that streis a state of worry caused by the problem of living , such as too much work or study , heavy responsibilities , and quickened pace of life .

statistics show that strecomes from every detail in our life . financial problems , poor health , being laid off may be the strethat most adults now suffering . as students in the university , we are also under our special stre. while study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us . and the things make us felt stressed may be our parents’s greater e_pectations on us than we could reach . later , when we are likely to graduate , some other problems will also annoy us . i think we will worry a lot about our ability to compete in the job market and how we can best use what we’ve learned at college in our future job .

the chief problem we should face to is our atitude towards stre.people usually say they can not live in the sun e_cept they escape from stre. it’s unwelcome ! yes , however , very necessary . just image a world where stredoes not e_ist and people lead their life in a very comfortable way . but is this kind of living condition as perfect as we hope ? without stre, they may feel very satisfied with the current life but lack of power to discover new things . too much satisfaction result in nothing e_cept a countermarch of the society . no stre, no development . so a certain amount of streis good . it can stimulate us and increase our level of alertne.

and our answer to streis another vital problem . how to do with ourselves when stresuddenly break into our life ? to wave the white flag and admit our unability , to give up to our ideality , or worstly , just to suicide as to put an end to everything … of cause not . the principle is to tackle with stregentlely and harmoniously. we should try our best to release ourselves . such as to do some e_ercise , to linsen to traditional chinese music or classical music to ease our minds and to learn to view these changes of life as challenges .it’s no use crying over spilt milk . only to accept what has happened can solve the problem .

the name christmas is short for "christmass". a mass is a kind of church service. christmas is a religious festival. it is the day we celebrate as the birthday of jesus. there are special christmas services in christian churches all over the world. but many of the festivities of christmas do not have anything to do with religion. e_changing gifts and sending christmas cards are the modern ways of celebrating the christmas in the world.

the birth of jesus had a story: in nazareth, a city of galilee. the virgin's name was mary was betrothed to joseph. before they came together, she was found with child of the holy spirit. joseph her husband was minded to put her away secretly. while he thought about these things, gabriel, an angel of the lord appeared to him in a dream and told him did not be afraid to take mary as wife. and mary will bring forth a son, and he shall call his name, jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

before jesus births, joseph and mary came to quirnius was governing syria. so all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. joseph also went up out of galilee, out of the city of nazareth, into judea, to the city of david, which is called bethlehem, because he was of the house and of the lineage of david, to be registered with mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. so it was that while they were there, the days were completed for her to bedelivered. and she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. and that, christmas is the feast of the nativity of jesus, is on 25th, december every year. but nobody know the actual birthday of jesus. and the christmas has become popular when christmas cards appeared in 1846 and the concept of a jolly santa claus was first made popular in nineteenth century。

my dear friends,

do you know what is the most precious and everlasting thing in the world ?money?you may lose everything you have if you don't use money carefull enough.youth?in one's long life youth is like a flash in the pan and no one in the world has the secret to keep his youth forever.beautiful look?many people pray that they can get hold of beauty, but it disappears far more quickly than they can imagine.and when they are in real trouble beauty itself feels helpless.a good job?as you grow older and your brain and hands can't work as fast as before.it will become other people's wealth.

then what is the most precious and everlasting thing in the world?

when you are far away from your family and feel especially lonely, who will you think of?when you stand on the crossoad in your life and don't know which way to choose, who will you think of?when you encounter greater difficulties than ever and need other's encouragement, who will you think of?when you decide to make the greatest decision in your favorite course, who shed cheerful tears when see you get achievements?whose wholehearted blessing will be always with you no matter how far you will go?

yes,it's mother who you will always think of and it's mother's love that willbe always be with you.

i once heard a moving story about a mother.two childrens were drawn into the flood and the situations was very dangerous.their mother jumped into the water without hesitation.but the mother couldn't swim at all.jumping into the water means she might lose her life.but at that time she had no time to think about herself.she just wanted to try all means to save her children.maybe her courage touched the god.the miracle happened.she finally succeeded in saving her both children.and she,of course, felt e_tremely e_hausted.

my friends, mother's love is the greatest love.mother's love is the safest love.no matter you are happy or depressed ,rich or poor ,mother's love will always stay with you.

Christmas Day,the 25th of December,is the biggest festival(节日)celebrated in the Christian countries of the world.Although everyone enjoys Christmas Day,it is particularly enjoyed by children, who get very e_cited because of the presents they know they are going to receive.Small children believe that their presents are brought by Father Christmas(圣诞老人).Father Christmas is a kind of old man who,the children are told, lives at the North Pole.He travels through the sky on a sleigh(雪撬) which is pulled by reindeers(驯鹿) and loaded with(装满) presents.Stopping on the roof of houses,he enters by climbing the chimney(烟囱).When small children go to bed on Christmas Eve,they hang a stocking at the end of their beds.Their parents warn them not to try to look at Father Christmas,or he will not leave them anything. When they wake, they find their stockings filled with presents.Children are very e_cited on Christmas morning and always wake up early.

Christmas is also a family celebration. As any members of the family as possible gather to eat, play party games and watch the special Christmas programmes on TV

关于圣诞节的英语演讲稿5

Good morning. On this Christmas Eve, Laura and I send our best wishes to families across America as you gather in your homes to celebrate the holiday. Christmas is a time of joy and peace, and we hope the holiday season brings all of you happy reunions with families and friends, and time to rest and reflect as you look forward to a new year. At Christmas, we give thanks for the gift of the birth of Christ, and for the blessings that surround us every day of the year.

In this great and prosperous land, we have so much to be thankful for, and Christmas reminds us of our obligation to share these blessings with others. There are many among us who are hurting and require a helping hand. In the new year, I hope Americans will look for ways to volunteer your time and talents where they are needed most. By reaching out to a neighbor in need, we make our nation a more just and compassionate place.

This Christmas, we remember our fellow citizens who suffered from the hurricanes and other disasters that struck our nation this past year. We pray for their strength as they continue to recover and rebuild their lives and their communities.

During the holiday season and throughout the year, we think with pride of the men and women of our Armed Forces, who are keeping our nation safe and defending freedom around the world.

In Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, they are protecting our liberty by spreading liberty to others, and all Americans are grateful to our troops for their courage and commitment.

We re also grateful to their families. Staying behind when a family member goes to war is a heavy burden -- and it s particularly hard at Christmas. We pray for our military families; we ask Almighty God to bestow His protection and care on their loved ones as they protect our nation from grave dangers.

We also remember the heroic men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation s freedom. We pray that God will comfort the loved ones they left behind. The sacrifices of these brave troops have rescued millions from lives of tyranny and sorrow, and made America more secure. We will always cherish the memory of each of our fallen servicemen and women, and count it a privilege to be citizens of the country they served.

The times we live in have brought many challenges to our country. And at such times, the story of Christmas brings special comfort and confidence. Christmas reminds us that we can trust in God s promise of peace on Earth and goodwill toward men. On a night more than 2,000 years ago, an angel of the Lord brought good tidings of great joy: the God of Heaven had come to Earth, and He would be with us always.

Thank you for listening, and Merry Christmas.
