It is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present-day world. Land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. Waste gases poison the air we breathe. The rivers and lakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. It is probably no e_aggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the e_istence of mankind itself.
Some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. But I do not think that this argument is valid. After all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?
There is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. The key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. Both governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good evening! I am very glad to be here to share with you my view of success. Everybody desires success but what on earth is success?
You may ask me “Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is a high status success?” No, I don’t think so. Although they may be called success in some way, I think success lies more in the success of our striving for success. For e_ample, China’s entry into the WTO is a success; Beijing’s bid for the 2008 Olympics is a success; our national football team’s dash into the World Cup is a success. However, have you imagined the efforts it took to yield these successful e_amples? Many people only concentrate on the results but don’t pay enough attention to the process entailed to success.
What made the process and the eventual success possible? The answer is trying and constant trying. If we had quitted, success would have escaped from us however much we yelled for it. In other words, it is perseverance that has made and will make success available to us.
Therefore, whenever we begin to do anything, we should not always lay emphasis on the results only. Keep in mind that the process of chasing success may get us lots of e_perience, may make us more intelligent, may make more determined and prepared for ne_t endeavour. Even if we don’t succeed in the end, the process will contribute to us in that it will prepare us for the future.
As we all know, Rose, a famous brand, which plays a key role in leading the fashion home and abroad, is enjoying what we call prosperity and wide prospect. For the director and all the staff, it is definitely an amazing success. However, more attention should be given to what it took to make their dream come into reality.
As to me, standing here giving a speech is also a success to some e_tent. No matter what the results are, I surely will get a lot of e_perience and make lots of friends because it is more important that I have done what I can.
I would like to quote a great British naturalist John Ray as saying, “success belongs to the persevering”. My friends, as long as you keep trying, success will approach you and hug you finally.
