the Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway’s most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a GREat part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.
I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday. Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre.
My first impression of this story was from screen.
It’s long long ago, maybe before I can read english books. I don’t remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It’s pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine,though I didn’t think she’s beautiful. But she’s smart. However, I didn’t pay much attention to the plot. I thought it’s so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven’t read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.
In fact, I didn’t understand the story at that time. I didn’t know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn’t find where’ s the prejudice. I thought it’s normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. I’m a prejudiced person so I can’t find where’s wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.

近期，我读了现代美国小说作家海明威的小说《老人与海》。
桑地亚哥一连八十四天都没有捕到一条鱼，他们全家饿得前心贴后背。但桑地亚哥毫不灰心，在第八十五天时依旧出海捕鱼。这次，他终于捕到了一条身长八十五尺，体重一千五百磅的大马林鱼!桑地亚哥心中的欢喜无法用语言形容!他奋力与马林鱼搏斗……终于，他用了两天的时间杀死了马林鱼，把它挂在船头。然而，有许多凶猛的鲨鱼来抢夺桑地亚哥的战利品，桑地亚哥毫不惧怕，他英勇无畏接受了鲨鱼们的挑战。但敌众我寡，桑地亚哥拼尽全力也没能保住他费尽周折捕来的马林鱼，被鲨鱼啃成一条骨架。
可我认为，桑地亚哥已经赢了!这是多么完美的失败啊!
他虽然没能保住马林鱼，但，他战斗前毫不惧怕的本色，战斗时英勇无畏的特点，战斗后不灰心的性格，都表现得淋漓尽致!难道，这不值得我们去学习吗?
在生活中，我们遇到困难都能做到迎难而上吗?在敌众我寡时都能做到毫不惧怕吗?在失败过后都能重新振奋起来吗?
不。我就做不到。在我学习奥数时，遇到题目很长的问题时，常常会被表面现象吓到，从而选择放弃。其实问题是很简单的，我们是被它的表面现象所吓倒了。俗话说得好，明知山有虎，偏向虎山行，任何事情都一样，不要被困难吓倒，要学习桑地亚哥的不畏困难。
在学习钢琴时，考级曲十分难，旋律、音符……几乎没有是重复的，都要你去记，去感受。我常常灰心丧气，认为自己一定弹不出来。可我最后选择了坚持，出色地完成了考级曲，顺利通过了八级。是啊!我们应该学会无畏，学会坚持，学会不服输，永不言败的性格与持之以恒的精神是我们通往成功之门的金钥匙。
上次的迎春花作文比赛，我没能代表学校参加比赛，心里很是失落，从此一蹶不振。但老师开导我，失败乃成功之母，只要继续努力不服输，不久后就一定会收获成功的!听了这话，我仿佛又看见了希望。经过努力，我终于在之后的作文比赛中取得了优异的成绩。那么多着名的科学家也曾遭到过无数次的打击，但他们放弃了吗?不!他们从不灰心，他们相信上天一定不会亏待努力的人!
古人云：山穷水尽疑无路，柳暗花明又一村。我们要满怀信心的去迎接挑战，英勇无畏地与困难奋抗。因为我相信成功永远属于我们自己!

见识过“富贵”的人，领悟了人对于灾难的承受力。即便从家财万贯、百亩良田到穷困潦倒、食不果腹，也难以令“富贵”在艰难面前停下。到后来，他的亲人一个个逝去，最终只剩下他与老黄牛，也不曾对不幸埋怨过什么。如果说，这样一个故事可以我们明白“承受”，那么《老人与海》则可以让我们战胜!
老人与海，本就是渺小与庞大的对比，然而老人却从未怕过、怨过、恨过。瞧过“鲁滨逊”机智的人，都明白孤独的可怕，独自一人应对生存的艰难。而将一切更为残忍的遭遇放在一个老人身上的时候，其映射出的感受便不言而喻了。他航海八十多天，一无所获，看着丰收的同伴，听闻他们的讥笑，却毫不在意。没错，他是乐观的，这乐观不仅仅在于以后可能产生的“收获”，而是他对苍天、对浩海、对星空的不惧。是的，“拥有”在他眼里不那么重要，他所追求的就是搏斗，无论对方是大马林鱼还是鲨鱼，无论是手抽筋还是几天几夜的煎熬，他所需要的就是搏斗。以此来证明自己，不畏年老、不畏磨难、不畏天地给予的一切创伤。
海明威是个很厉害的人，他将人们对苦难的应对方式描写的淋漓尽致。但人终究有一颗柔软的内心，在遇到苦难时，人们会想起自己最想见的人，会突然有很多想对对方说的话。然而，当周围空无一物的时候，也就无所谓了，想想也罢、说说也好，只要不服老，不认输，也就没什么干不成的。
老人象征着柔弱、无力、沧桑。而比他小船还长的大马林鱼自然是天赐的幸运，它一直潜在水里，老人不知道它有多大，它什么时候会浮上来，它是否会逃跑?而将它抓住又能得到什么?在这一切未知的前提下，他紧紧抓着鱼竿，拼命的祈祷，想让这大鱼跳起来，跳起来它就死了，又祈祷它千万别下潜，下潜它就跑了。更可恶的是，该死的双手随时会抽筋，之前坚持了一次，如果抽筋还来，那老人只有割断鱼线了。
最终，老人经过了几天的奋战，拖着疲惫的身躯把它抓住了。那条大马林鱼比他的船还长，老人只得将它跟船绑在一起，想着回去以后的巨大收获。“好事儿不能说出来，说出来就不会实现了。”这位暮年老者，携着疲惫的身躯和随时会抽筋的双手，又遭遇到鲨鱼。同时也证明了“祸不单行”，鲨鱼不是一条，更不是两条，是一群!奄奄一息的大马林鱼狂摇着尾巴，它败给了老人却不肯败给鲨鱼，直到大马林鱼被啃掉半巨身躯，依旧在残喘着。老人拼了命地保护他的猎物，先是用鱼叉，鱼叉断了换刀子，刀子不好使换棍子，最后换成舵柄，舵柄断了就舵柄的把手扎鲨鱼。直到最后，老人累倒在船上，仍旧带着那副巨大的鱼骨回去了。
老人告诉人们一个事实，没有不可战胜的!所有人都曾在困难下退缩，因为他们不知道“大马林鱼”有多长，不知道“大马林鱼”还可能救他的命，更不知道，只有“大马林鱼”才能发掘自己的潜力，才能无谓的告诉自己，能战胜的不仅仅是“大马林鱼”，即使是“鲨鱼”甚至是更大的，再大些的都可以!
虽然老人老了，手容易抽筋，容易感到疲惫，没有多大的力气，但他却总梦到狮子……
