On Wednesday, ten-year-old Florida girl Kaley Szarmack was playing waters at a Jacksonville beach, when she felt a sharp pain in her right leg. Thinking a crab (螃蟹) was holding on to her, the young girl looked down. But she only found several lacerations (裂口) on both sides of her leg. Soon after, Kaley noticed the fin (鳍) of a three-foot-long shark. It was swimming away.
At that time, her six-year-old friend was also in the water. Shouting a quick warning to her, Kaley walked out to get help from her parents. They were sitting further up on the beach. But when she turned around, she realized that the girl didn’t hear her. So Kaley walked back in and pulled her young buddy to safety, before seeking (寻求) help for her wounds.
Kaley was immediately rushed to Wolfson Children's Hospital. In the hospital she underwent an hour-long surgery (手术) to repair the cuts from the shark's bite. Kaley will get well in about a month.
