  Eassy does it

IT'S hard to imagine that such a quiet body can have such power and energy. The thin and shy rock kid Eassy, 19, won't be noticed in a large crowd. But when he gets into his music world, he's full of passion (激情)!

"Music is like paradise (天堂) for me," he said. "That's where I can have the total freedom to release myself. That's the inspiration in my life."

Eassy was the 2006 My Show (我型我秀) winner. When he first entered the competition, people were not giving him too much attention. But his unique voice and creative song-writing soon made him a dark horse candidate.

He released (发行) his first CD Wang Xiaokun last month. It has a collection of his eight original songs. Those record his continual search for ideals as a youth.

On April 28, he held a concert with his college band Qinma Island in Beijing. His bold performance triggered (引发) laughter and tears from his fans, who call themselves the big "insects group" (昆虫).

"Music gives me a lot of fantasy and wild ideas," he said, "It makes my mind wander from the robots to the planes flying high in the blue sky."

Unlike most of teenagers, Eassy didn't spend his middle school years reading textbooks. He fell in love with the drum and guitar. Then he started to build his own rock band, saving all his pocket money to buy equipment. He failed to enter his dream college by 13 points in the exam.

In his college years, he built another band, Qinma Island. This time he played in a more serious way. Together they joined a talent show. They also recorded their own song, The Beloved (《宠儿》). Without the money to rent a studio, they set up their own with some wooden plates and used lots of quilts (被子) to absorb the noise.

"Those were harsh (艰难的) days and we put all we had into nothing but music," he said. "However, looking back, money looks so trivial (微不足道) in front of music. Music gives me the widest stage to stand on, and I'll follow my dream as long as I can."

Eassy has many die-hard fans among junior and high school students. They told Teens that they were touched by the sincerity in his songs. "He wrote the songs himself with his opinions and attitudes about life," said Xiaozheng, a senior 1 student from Tianjin, "And he sings with his soul, which touches us deeply."

"I didn't know rock music was so fun before I heard him in the contests," he said, "He's making it in a fresh and experimental way."

It's hard for Eassy to say goodbye to his Qinma Island friends for a while, but he has to go after the dream on his own now. "Those struggling days were the best times in my life,"he said.
