Two men from different worlds — a BuzzFeed editor(编辑) from New York and a man in southern China known as “Orange Brother” — have been friends after social media(媒体) helped them know each other over a stolen iPhone.

The story of a guy named Matt in New York City who had his iPhone stolen last year has become famous on Chinese social media. Matt said his phone was stolen from a bar in the East Village last February. He bought a new phone and carried on with his life. It wasn't until this January, however, that he was going through his photo stream and noticed tons of photos that weren’t his, including several pictures of an unknown man posing next to an orange tree. More photos of food menus, fireworks and something strange kept appearing in his photo stream in the following days.

Matt later learned that his phone, stolen almost a year ago, had ended up in China and that the new owner was still logged(登陆) into his iCloud account(账户).

After Matt wrote about the cross-seas connection on BuzzFeed, a web user translated it and posted it to Weibo. He started getting tons of attention from people in China about the story. They thought it was romantic like a fairy tale and perfect for the spirit of the Spring Festival.

In typical Chinese netizen(网民)-fashion, they were able to track down the information of “Orange Brother”. He lived in Meizhou, Guangdong province. Web users loved this, and urged Matt to come to China and connect with his “long-lost brother”.

Orange brother made the first move. “Matt, I welcome you to come to Meizhou and try some local food,” he said on Weibo, China’s micro blogging platform. That post was “liked” over 12,000 times. Matt quickly accepted. Matt began learning Chinese, while Brother Orange posted videos of himself learning English. But when they final ly met, the smiles and hugs said it all.

Sarah ran in, shouting, “Look what I found!” Over the top of the paper I was reading, came a terrible thing that caused me to jump. It was a snake skin found in our garden.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” said my seven-year-old daughter.

I opened my eyes widely and looked at the snake skin in fear. I didn’t think it was beautiful, but I learned never to appear nonchalant(冷漠的)with children. Everything they see for the first time is important to their sense of beauty; they see only excellence in the world.

“Why does it do this?” Sarah asked.

“Snakes shed(蜕) their skins because they need to renew themselves,” I explained.

“Why do they need to renew themselves?” Sarah asked.

“We often need to shed our skins, those coatings that we cover ourselves with,” I said to my daughter. “We leave some things and find other things unwanted or unnecessary. This snake no longer needs this skin. It is probably too little for him, and he probably doesn’t think he looks as smart in it as he once did.”

As we talked, I knew that she began to understand. Although she couldn’t understand clearly, she would know that renewal is part of progress that we need to take a good look at ourselves, our rooms, schoolwork and spirit, and see what we need to keep and what we need to leave. I was careful to tell that this is a natural way, not one to be forced.

“Snakes don’t peel off their skins when they like them.” I explained. “It happens as a natural thing of their growth.” “I see, Dad,” said Sarah as she held the snake skin, and then ran off.

I hoped she would remember this, we need to throw some away because they are worthless or unnecessary. Then we can store them as memories in our deep hearts.

Since January 2015, many cities in China have seen a lot of foggy days. In Beijing, only five days in January were free of smog (雾霾). What’s the difference between fog and smog?

According to scientists, fog(雾) is made up of tiny drops of water and also ice particles (颗粒) during very cold conditions. Smog is dirty air that looks like a mixture of smoke and fog, caused mainly by smoke from cars and factories in cities.

An official for the Ministry of Environmental Protection told Beijing News that PM2.5 pollution is the main problem with air pollution. PM 2.5 refers to pollution with small particles 2.5 micrometers(微米) or less in diameter (直径). According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two main factors that cause PM 2.5 are motor vehicles and the burning of coal.

Poor air has done harm to people’s health. Children and the eld erly are more at risk. A report from Beijing Children’s Hospital shows that from January 5 to January 11, 2015, half of the patients in the hospital came for respiratory (呼吸道的) problems.

To respond to the air problem, the Chinese government and many Chinese people have started to take action.

Beijing announced a plan to use clean fuel(燃料) in government vehicles and plant trees. It asked citizens to set off fewer fireworks for the Spring Festival celebration. They suggested that cars with large emissions (排放) should be stopped and factories should be closely watched.

Three students from No. 4 High School in Beijing wrote a report to advise to fight the air pollution. “We hope more people will join us to protect our environment. With all our efforts, the blue skies will certainly return soon,” said Shi Xiaofei, 15, one of the three students.

Suddenly a small opening appeared, and the butterfly made its great effort to force its body t 73 that little hole. Then it seemed to stop m 74 any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.

So the man d 75 to help the butterfly. He cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly could come out e 76 . But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.

The man c 77 to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become l 78 and be able to fly. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the r 79 of its life crawling (爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.

The man was in his kindness, but he did not understand the nature r 80 . Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid (流体) from its body must be forced into its wings, and then it would be r 81 for flying. It must have a hard struggle (拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly w 82 we need in our life. If God allowed us to go thr ough our life without any d 83 , it would make us fail. We would not be as strong as we could have been; we could never fly.
